Frances Borowsky: Teaching Philosophy

In my teaching, I focus first on grounding technique, and delivering students from excess tension in playing through awareness of breathing, arm height, usage of arm weight, and proper bow placement. As the technique settles, I assist students in discovering how to convincingly execute exactly what is printed in the music, as well as how to go beyond the notation to determine phrasing. My goal is for students to be able to fearlessly explore the many possibilities of sound and color, use the technique available to them to serve the music, and have their imagination and passion ignited to discover a myriad of interpretative options.
